  5. Thank you for downloading this, the fourth consecutive virus 
  6. definition update for the Norton AntiVirus version 3.0.  The 
  7. contents of this ZIP file will bring your NAV up to date as of 
  8. February, 1994.  It is all-inclusive--you do not need any of 
  9. the previous update files.  This text file describes the 
  10. contents of the ZIP file, the installation procedure, and 
  11. describes in detail what's new in this update.

  13. All contents of this file have been scanned by Norton AntiVirus 
  14. and are free from virus infection.  The virus definition and 
  15. repair data included with 30A04 are for use by Norton AntiVirus 
  16. version 3.0 only, they will not work with any other anti-virus 
  17. software or any earlier version of NAV.  If you experience any 
  18. trouble with this update, please contact NAV technical support, 
  19. using any of the methods listed in your user's manual.

  21. 30A04.ZIP-contains;
  22.  
  23.     VIRSCAN.DAT-this is the actual data used to detect 
  24.     and repair viruses.  Not merely an update, this is a 
  25.     replacement for the entire existing definition set.
  26.     
  27.     VIRSCAN.INF-provides the database of information 
  28.     used by the [Info] section of Norton AntiVirus. 
  29.     It is kept separate from the VIRSCAN.DAT file as it 
  30.     may not always be necessary to update.

  32.     30A04.TXT-the file you are now reading, this text 
  33.     file contains descriptions of the components of 
  34.     30A04.ZIP, instructions for installation and 
  35.     revision notes.

  41.            Loading New Definitions
  42.  
  43. Note:  The files contained in this zip file, referred to as a virus
  44.        definition update set, completely replace the corresponding
  45.        files contained within the product.  Only the latest virus
  46.        definition set is required to update the product.

  49. NAV 3.0 has greatly simplified the definition update process.  
  50. There are now only two steps to updating your copy of Norton 
  51. AntiVirus.
  52.  
  53.     1. Copy VIRSCAN.DAT and VIRSCAN.INF into the Norton
  54.            AntiVirus directory.
  55.     
  56.     2. Scan with NAV, in either DOS or Windows.
  57.     
  58. NOTES:
  59.  
  60. If you have unzipped this file inside your \NAV directory, (\NDW 
  61. for users of Norton Desktop for Windows), then you have already 
  62. completed the first step.  If you unzipped the three files into 
  63. another directory, or are viewing this, still ZIPped (by using 
  64. a ZIP management program) then copy the extracted files to your 
  65. NAV directory.  You want to overwrite the existing, old, data 
  66. files, in case you are asked.

  68. Then, in either DOS or Windows, activate NAV and scan any 
  69. drive, directory or file.  This will generate new interim 
  70. files, and update NAVTSR.
  71.  
  72. Exiting NAV (and Windows) and rebooting your computer to load 
  73. the new NAVTSR completes the process.  You are now operating 
  74. with the latest anti-virus protection.
